How does Propel Replays work?
Propel Replays does not actually record a video of visitors using your site. That would require a lot of your visitor's bandwidth and would slow down loading of your website.
Instead, Propel Replays takes a snapshot of your website's code then records any user interactions that occur. When you view a replay, the app loads the snapshot of your website's code then replays the user interactions on that snapshot.
Please note that replays can sometimes differ from the actual user experience for a few reasons:
- Not all elements can be captured in the website snapshot due to browser security settings (e.g., anything in an iframe cannot be recorded.)
- Not all CSS is supported by our recording library - e.g., some CSS-based animations may not get captured.
- When viewing a replay, our app will attempt to load all the assets your website uses - CSS files, images, etc. Because they're being requested from our server and not your website, the requests are sometimes denied resulting in some assets not loading. Assets not loading can affect the display of the website snapshot.
